A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
Haven’t decided on my rating yet. (Edit: probably a 3.5 but I believe in always rounding up. Second edit: I looked at the books I gave 4 to recently, and I decided I couldn’t really justify putting it with Warcross and Stiff. I do like this and maybe a 3 is unfair but I also am not sure about a 4. Maybe I will just waffle forever.)
I don’t agree with people that are reviewing saying it’s a pointless money grab. I think it very clearly had threads that will be used to set up the next series. Which is why none of them were resolved. Which is also always annoying.
We will be seeing the Illyrians and the struggle of the girls in training, Nesta’s rage and hopefully her stopping being self-destructive, Cassian will be dealing with how to talk to Nesta, Mor and whatever darkness is lurking. I also low key think Elaine will have a think with Az despite Lucian. Duh, we’re also going to see Lucian and his little group of outcast humans. Probably going to do badass stuff. And Tamlin and the border. That is a shit ton of set up.
I didn’t enjoy the stuff that I think I was meant to find sexy. I mostly found it cringy and overly sentimental. We know y’all love each other. You don’t have to mind fuck and make very dramatic declarations for us to remember.
But I did like parts of this book! I cried near the end and just kinda low key had my eyes leaking the last chapter. If you want to theorize about what we are getting next reading this is a must. It’s full of hints. If you don’t really like fluffy happy basically a Christmas special type novellas, then wait until the next trilogy starts.
I gave this book 3 stars on Goodreads and read it on July 6th, 2018.
