Review: The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo
There is nothing wrong with this book; it is completely fine. Don't come in expecting something like Language of Thorns; you will be disappointed.
The Lives of Saints is a collection of vignettes about the saints from the Grishaverse. It is cute, and I think the longest story is 6 pages, with most being around 2.
If you are a person who loves the Grishaverse, then I would totally get this book because it would be fun to have on your shelf. I would not recommend reading it in one go, it is short, but I would imagine it is more fun just to get a little taste of the world every now and then. I read the book on and off all day and thought I would probably have liked the storied better if they were in a larger narrative or bonus content that I didn't pay $25 for, but the book is pretty (not Language of Thorns pretty but still very pretty) so I'm happy I have it.
I feel silly rating the content, they were all just little dips into a story, and all wrap up with a quick summation of the Saint and their specialization. It is fun world-building information. I favored Sankta Vasilka, Sankta Magda, and Sankta Alina's stories, they were some of the longer stories or ones I had some emotional connection to the story.
The art is pretty, it matches the religious tone well. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at each piece, but when I did spend more time looking I thought the art was nice. The art is all nice looking, soft, and easily understandable.
I gave this book 3 stars on Goodreads and The StoryGraph. I recommend this book to people who really like Grishaverse material and want a pretty copy adorning their shelves. I would argue it is more a fun thing to have than a fun thing to read. It is fine to read.
