Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Still love this series.

This book is really where it starts to get more complex. One drawback of the movie is watching it had dulled my memory of the many layers of this book. I was delighted to be reintroduced to the plot of this book!

I was again drawn in by the 13 plotline, the real reasoning behind the President's manipulation, the gruesome details of the rebellion's beginning, I had forgotten about Twill and Bonnie, and book Effie is so different from movie Effie (I assume because she is taking over some of Portia to simplify and make Effie more involved in the rebellion). And, of course, I love seeing this story from the caged animal mind of Katniss. She is basically almost feral this whole book, I love seeing her compassion war with her fear and the mistrust that has been beaten into her at every turn.

In this book I am sort of Gale indifferent, and I can see where Peeta's SUPER intense feelings are a tad unhealthy, this I think can be adequately explained as not a terrible thing because they are in a very intense very terrible situation within a very intense very terrible world. And that ending still kills me. Just as I know Mockingjay is going to kill me. It is VERY unfortunate that I really need to do some real life things and can't just jump right into Mockingjay now. So ready to go hate Coin.

I laughed and cried and was brimming with anticipation. This is still very impressive to me that Suzanne Collins is able to do this to me despite having already read these books. Congratulations. Please publish something else soon. I google every few months to make sure I haven't missed the announcement. I know you are probably financially secure but I would love some more books. I might go read her middle grade. But more Suzanne Collins would be killer.

I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads.
