Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Rainbow Rowell is amazing. I love her writing.
This book is an adult contemporary with some magical realism elements (a time traveling telephone). It tells the Story if Georgie McCool a TV sitcom writer who is having marital problems that come to a breaking point when she has to work over Christmas so her husband and kids fly off to his parents without her. It sounds sadder than it is. Even though I am a college student who is unmarried and childless I understood many of the older characters very well, Rainbow Rowell is amazing at getting you to feel empathy with her characters.
