I LOVED this book. Loved it. Loveddddd it.
The book is half memoir of Caitlin’s experience working in the death industry and half cultural look at death in different societies. It was amazing.
She advocates for a more natural engagement with death, she wants people to not be afraid of the idea of a dead body and to feel like they can be positively involved in the death rituals when a loved one dies.
The book was also funny. Like very funny. One section involving liquified fat was shocking and made me laugh quite a bit. The humor makes engaging with death so much easier.
Some of this book is sad but way less than you would assume. And she is never mean about how people handle the idea of death.
Everyone should read this book. You will die and you should be able to engage with that fact, start with this book.
I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads and read it on January 22nd, 2018.
