The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins by Clint McElroy, Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy, Carey Pietsch
I really fucking loved reading this graphic novel. I loved the journey listening to the podcast back when it was coming out (I’m a tiny bit behind post balance but I really really recommend The Adventure Zone).
Watching our heroes go through their early journey just reminded me how crazy the journey to publication was. Going back and listening to the early episodes you can tell they had no concept of the amazing world that was being constructed. But this is a digression.
The art for this is superb. I feel very connected to the characters on a whole new level. And they did an amazing job adapting this for a visual medium. I would kill for a cartoon. But I also cannot wait until I have a whole shelf of TAZ graphic novels.
My favorite thing is that they did not shy away from it being dungeons and dragons. Every time DM Griffin popped into a panel I was ecstatic. The stat scrolls on each character really was amazing and I loved the meta jokes that were able to take place.
This is a wonderful translation of a wonderful story. I am pumped for Murder on the Rockport Limited. That story kicked ass. Angus is an inspiration to us all.
I gave this 5 stars on Goodreads and read it on July 27th, 2018.
