I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara
Wow. This book is excellently written.
I don’t really read true crime ever because it feels like it’s fetishizing brutality and does not treat the victims like people. This book does not do that.
She treads gently with the people who had already been violated but does not protect the reader from the horror. She is just the best guide for this horrifying story.
The book is beautifully written. I cried like twice. And I listened to the audiobook and at midnight last night when I turned off the lights while still listening and was immediately gripped with terror. So I was up until like 3 am watching Parks and Rec before I could be asleep.
So the book is amazing and everyone should read it. Nonfiction written by a person with a strong voice who is passionate about their subject is the best thing ever. Gotta find more.
I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads and read it on May 7th, 2018. It is currently July so I am posting a bit late.
