Wayy better than Divergent. Literally should not even mention the Percy Jackson movie in the same solar system. Slightly more cheese than Hunger Games. But not by a lot. Please go see it. I super want a Never Fade. And directed and lead by WoC. So that’s bad ass and we have to put our money where our mouth is. Or we should.
I liked the movie, if you liked the book it’s pretty faithful. They made some slight changes. We all know Chubs is green and Black Betty is blue in the movie. But I also think they flipped orange and red on threat level. Which kind of ruins Alex Brackens joke with all oranges having red names. Some other changes to streamline, nothing that was upsetting. Also I totally want to reread now. Unfortunately I’m moving and all my books are boxed.
All the actors did wonderfully! Script was a tiny bit clunky with info drops and very thinly veiled racism metaphors that I feel like were less clunky in their book form. But on the whole it was enjoyable. Clancy is perfectly creepy. Liam is a dreamboat/cinnamon roll. Zu is the most adorable kid, she is wonderful even with out words. Chubbs might be the best. Ruby was way funnier than I expected.
All the cheesy lines are in the trailer. The reds effects caused some nervous giggles in the theater. I liked all the other effects. It made it very obvious what was happening without clubbing you over the head with it. I’ll probably see it again so I can form a more nuanced opinion.
Alex Bracken is blink and you miss her but she 100% looks like she is bouncing and it is very cute.
I really liked the way the handled orange power stuff. It was done very very well.
It would be awesome if they made a Never Fade. Please have a killer Sunday movie. TEENS GO TO THE MOVIES.
