Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink,  Jeffrey Cranor

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink,  Jeffrey Cranor

This is probably more of a 3.5 but half stars aren’t a thing and round it up is 100% necessary.
I 100% agree that you CAN read this if you haven’t listened to the podcast. Though I don’t think that’s the best idea. It is very Night Vale in a way that is more endearing if you had the slow buildup of 15 minute long episodes before you jump into the many hour-long project of reading a book.
I haven’t listened to Night Vale in quite some time (though I will most certainly jump back into it now) so maybe I would love this more if I was a current active listener. I came into Nightvale with the NPR wave of people, so not the most OG but pretty OG.
The characters were people I liked, the plot was interesting most of the time and wove together very well but something about the strangeness of the Night Vale style made the book stilted at times. The oddities pulled you out of the novel in a way that pulls you into the podcast. I chalk this up to a different format but it could be distance from the podcast. Also, it was odd having no character descriptions in a book. I don’t even notice it in the podcast. I guess that is a format thing my brain expects.
If you like Night Vale 100% read this book.

I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads and finished reading it on August 6th, 2018. AND NOW I AM CAUGHT UP ON BOOK REVIEWS
